In a cost-free program created by educators and financial professionals supported by the National Endowment for Financial Education's High School Financial Planning Program, First Flight High School students in select classes are benefitting from the expertise of two local businesspeople, State Farm Insurance Agent Chad Honeycutt and State Employees Credit Union Vice President/City Executive Monica Allen. Both are a part of a network of professionals who have volunteered to provide financial literacy education to high school students.
The NEFE High School Financial Planning Program focuses on how to give students the tools they need to get a good start to their financial lives. Students in Nancy Stevens' Computer Applications, Corey Hutcherson's Career Management, Jann McCarthy's Life Management and Brandon Harris' Technical Math classes are participating.
Here, State Farm Agent Chad Honeycutt speaks to First Flight High School students in Jann McCarthy's Life Management class about financial planning, insurance and budgeting. Honeycutt and NC State Employees Credit Union VP/City Executive Monica Allen are participating in a year-long project through the National Endowment for Financial Education's High School Financial Planning Program to help students successfully begin their financial lives. Allen spoke to Brandon Harris' math class about financial planning, smart goals and budgeting. Both Honeycutt and Allen plan to return to FFHS throughout the year to continue their work with students and teachers.
