First Flight High School senior Patrick Gray was called out for a congratulatory informal recognition at the Board of Education's meeting at First Flight Middle School on June 8. FFHS Principal Arty Tillett took the opportunity to announce to the Board that Patrick has been awarded a full four year scholarship - the prestigious Morehead Cain - to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Patrick is one of three Dare County Schools students this decade to be awarded the amenity-filled Morehead Cain. Patrick joins two other Dare County students this year to earn a perfect score on the critical reading (formerly verbal) component of the SAT; he is an AP Scholar with Honor, a National Merit Scholarship finalist; a 2009 NC Governors School alum, and FFHS' Class of 2010 valedictorian. Patrick's parents are Ronald and Susan Gray of Southern Shores. From left, FFHS Principal Arty Tillett, Board member Margaret Lawler, Patrick Gray, and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sue F. Burgess.
